Hotels.com (Expedia)

UX, UI, Strategy

Hotels.com is part of the Expedia group of travel companies. The company offers accommodation booking online offering its users a generous loyalty scheme.

The role

In my time at Hotels.com I worked within a core landing page pillar focused on new user engagement, and retention. I created reactive UX solutions and design iterations in fast-paced sprint cycles following their Lean UX Framework. Collaborating closely with PMs, data analytics, content, SEO, and data science teams helped in creating better-informed solutions. Discovery, strategy, and designs were presented in varying ways including wireframes; prototypes; documents; peer review, and in wider team presentations - whichever was best suited for the task.

Challenges

  1. Tight deadlines
  2. Running multiple tickets at once
  3. Resistance from teams
  4. Gaps in information

Solutions

  1. More meetings to discuss and view progress = more transparency
  2. Better document thoughts and project status to be easily picked up
  3. Workshops and visual examples helped me better relay solutions
  4. Building bridges to other teams to source information

The strategy was to create a phased solution that could run across staggered back-to-back timelines. This helped to rapidly produce work across teams and products without over stretching internal resources.
